Brand Audits

What does a brand audit actually uncover?

Most people hear “brand audit” and picture a designer critiquing their logo. A real audit is closer to a financial audit than an art review: a systematic examination of every place your brand appears, measured against a single standard, producing findings you can act on. A typical Druff audit works through forty to sixty distinct touch points — more than most clients believed they had.

The first thing an audit uncovers is scope. Before judging quality, you have to inventory reality: every template, every profile, every document type, every supplier-produced item, every channel. Organisations are consistently surprised by their own footprint — the brand appears in several times more places than anyone had listed, and a good share of those places have no owner. Abandoned social profiles, forgotten microsites, the branch office’s letterhead: all of it is still representing you.

The second finding is variance. Once the estate is mapped, we compare it to the standard: correct marks, colours, typography, tone, layout and messaging. This is where the audit quantifies what everyone vaguely suspected — which departments are on-brand, which channels have forked, which materials are actively contradicting your positioning. We score this as your Druff Index, so consistency stops being an opinion and becomes a number you can track. In our experience the score is rarely uniform: it is common to find a well-kept website coexisting with sales materials at half its score.

The third finding is causes, and this is our firm view of what separates a useful audit from an expensive complaint: every symptom must be traced to the mechanism that produced it. Drift always has one — missing templates, inaccessible assets, no approval path, no owner, suppliers working from files you sent them years ago. Symptoms are what you notice; mechanisms are what you fix. This is the Drift Diagnosis part of our methodology, and it is where the roadmap comes from.

What you walk away with is a clear picture: where your brand stands, exactly where it is leaking, why, and a prioritised roadmap to close the gaps — quick wins first, structural fixes after. It is written for a leadership audience, not a design one. If you have never seen your brand measured, book a Druff brand audit. It is the single fastest way to turn a vague worry into a plan.
